Too chilly in the office? You’re A/C needs improvement

Comments Closed

Air conditioning manufacturers and HVAC contractors agree that an outdoor condensing unit should not be run in cold weather for any reason. HVAC’s for offices regulate the interior temperatures and air quality. As such, these units may fail without proper servicing and if that is the case, HVAC buildings may experience loss of heat. That however does not mean that the office cannot be heated again only that an AC repair is required.

Refrigerant leak

One of the leading causes for AC units malfunction is a refrigerant leak. They can leak because of a number of reasons but you’re most likely not outside to notice the leaks. If it leaked a few days ago, then you will not be able to see the leak outside because it will be empty. There is never one precise reason for a refrigerant leak unfortunately but it could be that a joint loosened due to heavy use or a new AC unit may have been poorly assembled by the manufacturer. To prevent future leakages in future, have your AC unit serviced before turning it on for the winter or soon after turning it on. Refrigerants are dangerous so always contact your AC repair company and let them do the work professionally.

Frozen AC unit

To many HVAC building owners surprise, air conditioners can actually freeze. In fact, this is the main reason why air conditioners either blow out warm or cold air. Inside the unit, condensation can occur on the coils which then builds up and freezes. Typically, this happens on a cold day, when HVAC’s for offices are turned to the lowest setting. HVAC contractors should service the unit regularly and if it requires repair, it must first be turned off for an hour or two. After this, it should be safe to turn it on but if it still freezes, you will need to contact an AC repair company to take a look at it.

Thermostat settings

Some HVAC building owners simply forget that they have to turn the thermostat to cool from warm in the winter. If it is accidentally set to warm, the unit will start blowing cold air instead of warm air to maintain the temperature. Make sure that the unit’s temperature is not set too high on auto. Make a note to yourself before winter comes to turn your thermostat settings to cool mode. Call in HVAC contractors to carry out maintenance on your unit to decrease its chances of malfunctioning.

Air filters

Most HVAC’s for offices are never cleaned or changed until something goes wrong. Air filters accumulate dirt and the dirt will not clear up until you or a HVAC contractor takes it out and replaces it. The filter alone will not cause cold air to blow but it will contribute to the problem and reduce warming effectiveness. The function of air filters is to catch debris that may be flowing through your unit so they need to be cleaned or replaced. Have an AC repair company clean or replace your filters and reinstall them to their position.
